Month-end dates can be harder to calculate manually because calendar months do not all contain the same number of days. This example checks how the calculator handles a date that crosses from January through February into March.

How Does the Calculator Handle Month Lengths and Leap Years?

Calendar months do not all contain the same number of days, so the Birthday Calculator uses real calendar dates rather than assuming that every month has 30 or 31 days. It also applies Gregorian leap-year rules when February contains 29 days.

This matters for dates near the end of a month. For example, January 31 cannot simply be moved forward by a fixed number of days and treated as one calendar month. The calculator moves through valid calendar dates when determining completed years, months, and remaining days.

When the same day number does not exist in a shorter month, the calculation uses the last valid calendar day for that step. This prevents month-end calculations from producing invalid or negative day values.

Total calendar days are calculated separately from the years-months-days result. The calculator uses date-only values for these comparisons so daylight-saving or local clock changes do not alter the calendar-day count.

How Are February 29 Birthdays Handled?

February 29 is a valid birth date that occurs only in leap years. When calculating age on another date, the Birthday Calculator keeps the original February 29 birth date and compares it with the selected target date using Gregorian calendar rules.

For example, a person born on February 29, 2004 is 22 years, 0 months, and 1 day old on March 1, 2026 under the calculator’s calendar-age method.

Which Calendar System Does the Calculator Use?

This Birthday Calculator uses the Gregorian civil calendar for age, birthday, and date calculations. In the Gregorian calendar, a birthday normally returns on the same month and day each year, although the elapsed time between birthdays may be 365 or 366 days because of leap years.

Other calendar traditions may produce different recurring dates. Lunisolar and lunar calendars are still used for many cultural and religious dates. This calculator does not convert a Gregorian birth date into a Chinese, Hebrew, Hindu, or Hijri birthday.
